Behind the Curtain: What Happens at a Spirit Gallery Reading

I just finished a night of gallery readings and wanted to share the experience. People often ask, "What’s the difference between a one-on-one mediumship session and a spirit gallery reading event?"

To begin, I work with a team of guiding energies who assist me in my mediumship practice. They act as intermediaries between myself and spirit. These energies help collect and organize spirits who wish to come through, explaining the expectations and requirements for making a connection. In order to come through, spirits must provide validating information that I can share with attendees. My spirit team vets these energies to ensure that only spirits that come through are of the highest vibration.  We don’t allow any low-vibration or uncooperative energies—no funny business. Over time, my spirit communicators and I have developed a shared vocabulary, allowing me to interpret messages through impressions I receive with my psychic senses.

One-on-one mediumship sessions are private, intimate experiences between the medium and the individual. They often carry an emotional, cathartic energy.

Gallery readings, on the other hand, are a different kind of experience. These group events bring together several participants as I open the space to connect with deceased loved ones and spirit guides. Spirit guides are non-human energies that support us as we navigate life. Whether we recognize it or not, they are often helping us behind the scenes. These guides come in many forms—healers, protectors, animal spirits, angelic beings (not necessarily connected to a specific religion), warriors, sages, and more. Sometimes they show up in their true form, and other times they present themselves in symbolic ways, tailored to the message they bring.

What I love about gallery readings is that they are a shared spiritual experience. The atmosphere in the room shifts—not just because of the presence of different spirit energies, but also due to the anticipation and mystery that fills the space. There's a sense of closeness that emerges, even among strangers. People feel each other’s joy, connection with the spirit, and healing. And yes, there's often plenty of laughter too as many of the spirit personalities are absolutely hilarious.

One of the things that surprises people most is who comes through. It’s not always someone they were especially close to in life. It might be someone they knew thirty years ago—a distant acquaintance who nonetheless was touched by something they said or did. Spirits often want to express gratitude or acknowledgment, especially when they see the bigger picture from the other side. Many of us don’t realize the positive impact we have on others. These readings are powerful reminders that our everyday presence and energy matter. When spirit guides come through, people are often amazed by the accuracy of the messages in relation to their present life situations. One guide that came through last night was a warrior energy, delivering a message to someone who was working on self-empowerment. The energy told them their anger was valid and necessary to discover their true self. The guide encouraged them to redirect that anger into something purposeful and fulfilling.

Another guide presented itself as a metal pole in my vision. The recipient stood in front of the pole and molded it like clay. The message? That their creative energy is unique and should be shared with the world. The person later told me they were a welder—and that welding students begin by working with clay before transitioning to metal.

As a medium, I’m constantly humbled by the wisdom of spirit and the life experiences of the people who attend these sessions. I’m moved, inspired, and uplifted by the messages just like everyone else in the room. I also keep my gallery groups relatively small, ensuring that everyone receives something personal and healing from a loved one or a guide.

I truly love this work.
