In many of my classes—especially those involving spirit work—I teach about the psychic senses: energetic extensions of our human senses that we are all born with. Think of them as your "spidey senses."
These include:
Clairvoyance – Psychic seeing (usually in the mind's eye)
Clairaudience – Psychic hearing
Clairsentience – Psychic touch, physical sensations, and emotions (also called clairempathy)
Clairgustance – Psychic taste
Clairalience – Psychic smell
Claircognizance – Psychic knowing or intuition—your gut feeling
Heightening and paying attention to these senses isn’t just useful for spiritual work—it enhances our everyday lives. Everyone has psychic senses. This isn’t a gift reserved for a select few. While some people are naturally more inclined to tune in, most reawaken their skills through consistent practice.
You’ve Likely Experienced It Before
I can almost guarantee that you’ve had a psychic experience. If you believe you haven’t, you may have brushed it off as "just your imagination," or fear may have caused you to shut it down. Children are especially open to psychic experiences—they don't question them until they learn fear or disbelief from adults.
Discern, Don’t Dismiss
It’s important to discern rather than immediately disregard a psychic experience. Try to debunk, not dismiss. For example, let’s say I’m alone and hear whispers. First, I check: Is the TV or laptop on? Could it be my phone? Are there people outside? If I rule all that out, I might consider it a psychic experience.
Or maybe I get a bad feeling about someone or a situation without a clear reason. I ask myself: Do I have a bias here? Have I had a similar bad experience before? Or is this my intuition signaling something I can't logically see yet?
Learning what a psychic experience feels like for you is part of the process. That self-awareness builds stronger discernment.
Psychic Awareness Helps You Everyday
Psychic senses help us connect with spirit, receive messages from universal energies, and communicate with our higher self. But they’re also practical. Strengthening them can help you navigate daily life more intuitively and with more confidence.
Trusting your intuition is key. It often tells you the right direction to go—even if it doesn’t provide evidence. A dear friend once explained it best: Your intuition is the truth before you judge it.
6 Daily Exercises to Enhance Your Psychic Senses
Recreating your physical senses through imagination is a powerful way to strengthen your psychic abilities. Psychic messages are often subtle, especially at first, and can feel like imagination. These exercises help sharpen your awareness of those subtleties.
🕐 Set a timer for 2–5 minutes per exercise.
Clairvoyance (Sight)
Close your eyes and imagine opening your third eye. Visualize your own face. Recreate every detail—skin tone, freckles, moles, creases. Too easy? Visualize pores or individual hairs on your scalp.
Clairaudience (Hearing)
Recreate a loved one’s voice in your head. Focus on their pitch, tone, accent. Imagine them saying your name slowly... then quickly.
Clairsentience (Touch/Emotion)
Picture yourself lying in a sunny field. Feel the warmth of the sun, the breeze, the temperature shift on your skin. Notice your body's reaction.
Clairalience (Smell)
Imagine bringing a fresh rose to your nose. Inhale its rich, floral scent. Focus on how it feels to breathe it in.
Clairgustance (Taste)
Picture a piece of chocolate on your tongue. Feel it melt. Focus on texture and flavor moving across your mouth.
Claircognizance (Knowing)
This develops through practice. Start by trusting your gut with small decisions. Ask yourself a question and follow the first answer you feel. When meeting someone new, notice what you "just know" without reason.
Final Thoughts
There are countless ways to develop your psychic senses, and everyone receives messages in their own way. Your process is unique. Let it unfold without pressure.
